Purpose

The goal of the Student Life Committee (SLC) is to enhance the non-academic experience of students with the University. SLC seeks to provide the one-time events and also long-term programs to make students feel comfortable on campus and give them the chance to enjoy different opportunities. SLC wants to give Michigan students the tools and knowledge to utilize all of the resources available at our wonderful school. We do a lot of information campaigns and provide free materials to help students deal with the rigorous academic responsibilities of a top-notch University.

Current Projects

This semester, SLC is working on a ton of useful projects to improve the quality of campus life for students:

- Dealing with the long-term Bus Issues project, which will meet with faculty and attempt to improve different aspects of the Magic Bus system to alleviate the difficulties of traveling from Central to North Campus.

-Installing bottless water vending machines in classroom buildings, to provide students with easier and more convenient access to water while remaining environmentally friendly.

- Expanding our “ThisSucks” and “Did You Know” campaigns, and continuing to provide students with a variety of services to make life easier at the University, like passing out free blue books and food on the diag.

- Making adjustments to the Ugli by extending the library’s hours on weekends, installing more electrical outlets, etc.

- Improving international students’ experience on campus, such as by implementing a mentorship program for international freshmen to form relationships with upperclassmen.

-Creating events to increase freshmen bonding, such as free midnight breakfasts in the dorms, free basketball transportation to games, or even ice skating at Yost arena.

Meeting Time

During Fall 2009, SLC will be meeting on Tuesdays at 7:15 in our official LSA Student Government office, 325 Mason Hall, right near the Honors Commons and past the fish bowl. We hope to see you there!
