The LSA SG Executive Board biographies
President: Christine Schepeler
Hi! My name is Christine Schepeler and I’m a Senior from Connecticut, triple majoring in Political Science, American Culture, and Communications. I’m the 50th person on my mom’s side of the family to attend the University of Michigan. I have been on SG since the fall of my freshman year. The past two years I was the External Relations Officer and Communications Committee chair–working extensively on both internal and external communication for SG. Some of our biggest goals for the upcoming year are encouraging and promoting Campus Synergy, keeping the students informed and being transparent as a government, improving the funding application process for student groups, and increasing collaboration on campus. Some of the biggest projects I have worked on are a part of the LSA Pride Campaign, which include the LSA Senior Sendoff–a graduation event for the entire college of LSA, and a convocation event in the fall for all incoming LSA freshman. Please feel free to contact me regarding any questions about LSA Student Government as well as in regards to any collaborative opportunities on campus at cschep@umich.edu.
Vice President: Jeff Wojcik
Hey everybody, my name is Jeff Wojcik and I am 3rd year student majoring in Political Science and Organizational Studies. I am from Rochester Hills, Michigan. I mange internal Student Government’s functions, in addition to serving on several committees. I often attend AAC and Comm meetings, but frequent other committees as well. I currently am transitioning our finance documents to a digital system, in order to make our records more accessible and understandable. I also am working with faculty to increase the number of classes that count for various distribution credit to ensure LSA students have enough appropriate options availiable to complete all the components of their undergraduate study. I am always looking for new projects or issues to work on and can be contacted via email at jawojcik@umich.edu.
Treasurer: Steven Benson
Hey everyone! My name is Steven Benson and I am the Treasurer of this great organization. I am a junior from West Bloomfield, MI and I am double majoring in Political Science and Education. This is my third year on government and I have held many different positions in the past. I started off my freshman year as a representative, and then became PAC chair my first semester sophomore year and Counsel my second semester sophomore year. I am very interested and involved in Student Life Committee and Public Activities Committee. If you have any questions please feel free to email me at sbens@umich.edu. I can’t wait to meet all of you and hear all of your concerns. Thanks
Counsel: Zac Berlin
Hola, shalom, guten tag, namaste, Yow Wah gwaan, konnichi wa, and hello! My name is Zac Berlin, a sophomore from Farmington Hills, Michigan studying Political Science. I joined LSA Student Government second semester of my freshmen year and quickly became involved on the student life committee, public activities committee, and budget allocations committee. I hope to help make your college experience as awesome as possible through increasing the number of pages an LSA student is allowed to print, and rewarding students for their dedicated, tenacious school work. Feel free to contact me at zberlin@umich.edu with any questions, comments, or concerns.
External Relations Officer: Stephen Ratkovich
Hey! I’m Stephen and a junior working towards my goal of concentrating in Communications, English, and possibly Chinese. I’m from Troy, MI which is part of the Detroit suburbs. I was involved in student government in high school and was glad to continue serving students in college when I joined LSA SG the fall semester of my freshman year. I started off only in the Communications Committee but I soon branched out to AAC, SLC, and now SABISS, which I am the Chair. I have a passion for technology so I’ve been working close with LSA Instructional Support Services (ISS) through SABISS to update the LSA classroom furniture and equipment. One of my most ambitious projects is to help in the creation of a centralized University website where everything a student needs is on one convenient web page. An event calender, UMich Mail, CTools, bus information, resources, and so much more would be available for each U of M student to customize on his or her individual page rather than having no choice but to constantly switch between the dozens of University websites. As a former four semester Baits resident, I understand the frustration many students are experiencing because of the decision to turn some of the Baits houses into freshmen only dorms. I will do my best to improve the living conditions for Baits residents. Some other LSA SG related projects I’m interested in are creating the SG Guide to Government, digitizing the SG Bylaws, and updating the SG website. Send me an email sometime about whatever’s on your mind: ratkovs@umich.edu.
Academic Relations Officer: Adam McFarland
Hi! My name is Adam McFarland and I am a junior from Bay City, MI. I’m a pre-medicine student double majoring in Cultural Anthropology and Microbiology. In the past, I have worked on projects such as the LSA Graduation Event, introducing HONORS 135-type minicourses into the LSA curriculum, and currently I am working with the administration to develop an internship credit option for undeclared students. You can contact me with any questions about academics at the University or the Academic Affairs Committee. I’d love to talk to you and let you know about what we are doing on Student Government.
Secretary: Ariel Schepers
Hey guys! My name is Ariel Schepers and I’m a Senior from Chelsea, Michigan. I spent my first year at Denison University and am so happy to be out of Buckeye territory! I previously served as the vice-chair of the Public Activities Committee and currently I am the Secretary of the LSA-Student Government. I look forward to bringing more accountability to LSA-SG and making our representatives closer and more available to LSA students. I would love to hear from you with ideas, questions, life lessons or if you just want to get involved! My email is aschepe@umich.edu.
